[ARCHIVED] 05.22.2020 Town Update: Re-Opening Phases, Class of 2020 & Open Space Reminders

Town of Dover

May 22, 2020

  • Cases in Dover. Our Emergency Response team is reporting one new confirmed case this week, bringing our total cases to 17. Case information as reported by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) can be found here:
  •  Reopening Massachusetts. Governor Baker this week unveiled a four-phased approach to reopening. The first phase allows many businesses to reopen but with strict public health protocols in place. You can read more about the plan here:
  • Town Operations. Town buildings with the exception of the transfer station will remain closed to the public. Town services will continue to be provided online as well as by appointment. A departmental contact sheet can be found on the Town’s COVID-19 Resource page and directly at this link: Plans for restarting town programming run by the Council on Aging, Library, and Park and Recreation Departments is still in the works. We will share plans as they are finalized and encourage everyone to visit the respective webpages where we will post information as it becomes available .
  • Memorial Day Service.  The observation of Memorial Day, traditionally held on May 30 at the Town House, will NOT occur this year due to social distancing requirements. At noon on Saturday, May 30, the churches will ring their bells; we encourage everyone to remember and give thanks for all our Veterans, and those who have put themselves in harm’s way for our country.
  • Open Space. The Open Space Committee would like to remind residents about the plethora of outdoor recreational activities in town. A comprehensive list can be found on the Committee’s page here: In addition, the Committee reminds everyone of the following best practices:
    • Always check the property rules & regulations before you visit;
    • If parking is full, please try another time & don’t park on the street;
    • Wear masks whenever you are near or approaching others on a trail or in a parking area;
    • Do not congregate in parking areas/trail heads;
    • Keep dogs under close control or leashed (under no circumstances should a dog go up to or jump on another walker);
    • Move off the trail when passing others to maintain 6’+ separation;
    • Carry out anything you carry in;
    • Do not ride bikes or horses through muddy areas and create ruts or holes.
  • Celebrate the Class of 2020. The Dover Town Library is spearheading a community video project to help celebrate the graduating class of 2020 . Anyone in the community is encouraged to participate by filming a less than 1 minute video in landscape mode congratulating the graduating class. Videos should be sent to by June 3rd. The final video will be aired on the town’s social media channels and Dover Sherborn Cable TV.
  • Annual Town Election. The Annual Town Election will be held on June 15, 2020. As we all try to be safe, and limit our exposure, we are encouraging the use of absentee ballots. More information can be found on the town’s website here:
  • COVID-19 Testing. The Town strongly encourages people who are concerned that they may have symptoms of COVID-19 to arrange to be tested through their primary care providers.  If someone has a COVID swab test (PCR) that is positive, the provider who ordered the test will follow up, and the Dover Public Health nurse will also call to discuss isolation and quarantine in the home, as well as give advice about managing symptoms and, if needed, help arrange for groceries and other supplies. Some people have chosen to have coronavirus antibody blood tests performed.  The role of antibody tests isn’t entirely clear yet, as they may indicate past infection, but they may also indicate active infection .

Stay safe and stay healthy
