The role of the Warrant Committee is both financial and advisory. The Warrant Committee is the Town's finance commitee mandated under Chapter 39, Section 16 of Massachusetts General Laws. Its duties as set forth in the Town Bylaws are to "consider and investigate the various articles in the warrants for all Town Meetings", and to "report to the Town...such recommendations as it shall deem best." In addition, the Committee authorizes expenditures from the Reserve Fund for unbudgeted, unforeseen and extraordinary expenses that may occur during the year. The Committee consists of nine members appointed by the Moderator, each to a three year term.

The major portion of the Warrant Committee's work usually takes place from January to April, in preparation for the Annual Town Meeting and the new fiscal year beginning July 1.
