Special Liquor License Application

The Town of Dover may in certain instances, under the provisions of MGL c.138; §.14, issue special licenses for the sale and/or delivery of alcoholic beverages.  Said licenses if issued are subject to the following conditions:

1.     Alcoholic beverages may only be dispensed between the hours of 10:00 AM and 11:00PM Monday – Saturday and between the hours of 12:00PM and 11:00PM on Sundays and holidays.

2.     Alcoholic beverages may only be consumed on the property licensed.

3.     Alcoholic beverages must be consumed by 11:30PM.

4.     Application for said special license shall be made to the Board of Selectmen not later than twenty-one days prior to the planned event.

5.     Any entertainment (band or DJ) offered in conjunction with said license must also cease by 11:30PM.

6.     Although entertainment may be permitted in conjunction with a special license, the volume emanating from such entertainment shall be consistent with community norms.

7.     The community norms will be interpreted, if necessary as reasonable or unreasonable by any police officer that becomes cognizant, by any means, of said noise.

8.     Willful and /or repeated violations of these guidelines may be the grounds for the denial of any further special licenses to the applicant.

9. A late fee of $25.00 will be assessed if the application is not submitted timely for action by the Board of Selectmen

Your application will not be processed until we receive a check for $25 payable to the Town of Dover and you call to talk to the Chief of Police regarding this application at 508-785-1130. Payment should be sent to the Board of Selectmen’s office. The Board of Selectmen’s office is on the 2nd floor of the Town House and the hours of operation are 9am to 5pm. It can be mailed to: Board of Selectmen PO Box 250 Dover, MA 02030 Please note: Applications should be sent several weeks in advance of the event at which alcohol will be served in order for it to be scheduled for approval at a Board of Selectmen meeting.
