The Board of Fire Engineers is appointed by the Board of Selectmen. They oversee the operation of the Fire Department. They approve all expenditures and conduct the annual appointment of department officers.

Dover Town Code
There shall be a three-member Board of Fire Engineers appointed annually by the Board of Selectmen for one-year terms. The Board of Fire Engineers’ duties and authority shall include, but shall not be limited to, those specified in M.G.L. ch. 48, §§ 45-49, 51-54, 74-75, specifically including the authority to appoint the Fire Department officers and the responsibility to approve and oversee the financial operations of the Department.
